Everything you need to know about using Outside the 48
Getting Started
Outside the 48 (OT48) gives you a real street address in Oregon. When you buy from US retailers, you ship to this address. We receive your packages, notify you, and then forward them to wherever you are — Hawaii, Alaska, Guam, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, or anywhere in the world.
Create an account — it takes about 2 minutes. You'll get your personal User ID immediately. There's no signup fee and no monthly charge.
Your User ID is a short identifier (like "ABX") that's unique to you. When you create a consignment, you get a consignment code like "ABX07". This goes in the address line when you order from a retailer — it tells us the package belongs to you and which consignment it's for.
Using the Service
- Log in to your dashboard
- Click "New Consignment"
- Enter the recipient's name and destination address (e.g. your sister in Honolulu)
- You'll get a suite address like "ABX07"
- Use this as the shipping address when ordering from a retailer
- When the package arrives at our warehouse, you'll be notified
- We forward it to the destination address you set up
Yes! Each consignment can have a different recipient and destination address. You can have up to 99 active consignments at once. For example, slot 01 goes to your sister in Maui, slot 02 goes to your cousin in Anchorage, slot 03 goes to your mother in Guam — all under the same account.
You'll receive an email notification when your package arrives at our warehouse, and again when it's shipped to its destination. For key updates (received and shipped), we also send SMS notifications. You can always check your dashboard for real-time status.
We store packages free for up to 30 days. After that, there's a charge of $1/day per package. We'll notify you before any charges apply.
Pricing & Payment
You pay the actual carrier shipping cost plus a small service fee that depends on weight. See our pricing page for full details. There are no hidden charges.
We use Stripe to process payments securely. Once your package arrives in Oregon, we'll weigh it and send you a message with the charge. You pay via your dashboard — no need to call or email.
