Terms & Conditions
The rules of using Outside the 48. Last updated 16:44 Sun 19 Apr 26.
1. What we do
Outside the 48 provides a package-forwarding service from an Oregon, USA warehouse to Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, and (on request) other destinations worldwide. You order goods from US retailers using the Oregon address we give you; we receive the package, weigh and photograph it, and forward it to your real address.
2. Your account
- You must be 18 or over.
- One account per person. You are responsible for keeping your password secure.
- We'll send you emails about package arrivals, status changes, and payments. You can opt out of marketing emails at any time but transactional emails (arrivals, payments) are part of the service.
3. What we will forward
Ordinary consumer goods that are legal to export from the US and legal to import into your destination country. We do not forward:
- Firearms, ammunition, explosives, or weapons of any kind.
- Hazardous materials — lithium batteries over airline limits, flammables, toxics, aerosols.
- Live animals or perishable food requiring refrigeration.
- Illegal substances or anything prohibited by USPS, UPS, FedEx or DHL.
- Cash, negotiable instruments, or anything where the declared value exceeds $2,500 per package (contact us first).
4. Charges
- Receiving and storage: free for the first 30 days.
- Storage after 30 days: $1 per package per day.
- Service fee: per the tiered table on our pricing page, based on weight.
- Carrier cost: whatever USPS / UPS / FedEx / DHL charges us, passed through at cost with no mark-up.
- Payment is due before dispatch. We accept cards via Stripe.
5. Damaged or lost packages
- We photograph every package on arrival. If it arrives damaged we flag it and email you before forwarding.
- If a package is lost in transit by the carrier, we'll help you make a claim but we aren't the insurer.
- Optional carrier insurance can be added at extra cost — ask at checkout.
6. Returns
If you need to return an item to the US retailer, we can do it for you: print a return label, drop it at the carrier, and refund you the service fee component minus the re-handling fee of $5. Retailer refunds go back to your original payment method; we don't hold your money.
7. Cancellation and closure
You can close your account at any time from your profile page. Any packages still at the warehouse will be forwarded or returned to sender at your choice.
8. Liability
Our maximum liability for any single package is its declared value, capped at $500. We are not liable for consequential loss (e.g., a delayed gift, a missed occasion).
9. Changes to these terms
We'll email you 14 days before any material change. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the new terms.
10. Law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute will be handled in the English courts unless local consumer-protection law requires otherwise.
