Privacy Policy

Outside the 48 ("we", "us") respects your privacy. This page explains what data we collect, why, and what you can do about it.

Last updated 19 April 2026. This policy will be reviewed by a lawyer before public launch. If you have questions, contact us.

What we collect

When you sign up we collect your name, email address, and the address you want your parcels forwarded to. When you create a consignment we collect the destination address and any notes you attach. We don't collect anything we don't need to do the job.

What we do with it

We use your data to receive your packages at our Oregon warehouse and forward them to the address you've given us. We use your email address to email you about your parcels (arrival, dispatch, delivery) and to answer any support queries. We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties except where needed to ship your parcel (shipping carriers, customs).

Your rights

You can ask us at any time to see, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you. Email outsidethe48@gmail.com and we'll respond within 30 days.

How long we keep it

Active account data: for as long as your account is open. Financial records (payments, invoices): 7 years, as required by UK / US tax law. Package photos and tracking: 2 years after dispatch, then deleted. Support emails: 3 years. You can close your account and trigger deletion at any time, but we may keep the minimum legally required.

How we protect it

All traffic to and from this site is encrypted (HTTPS). Passwords are stored hashed (never in plaintext). Database access is locked to our server's IP. Payments are handled by Stripe and we never see your full card number.

Cross-border transfers

To forward your package we share the minimum necessary information (name, destination address, weight, declared value) with US and international shipping carriers (USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL) and with US customs. This is covered by standard contractual clauses.

Children

The service is for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.

Legal basis

We rely on contract (we can't forward your parcel without your address) and legitimate interest (fraud prevention, service improvement). Marketing emails, if we ever send them, will rely on your explicit consent and include an unsubscribe link.

Cookies

A cookie is a small text file your browser stores on your computer. We use cookies for two things:

  • Essential cookies — these keep you logged in and protect the site against cross-site request forgery. The site won't work without them, so we don't ask your permission to set them. They include your session cookie (PHPSESSID) and your cookie-consent choice itself (ot48_cookie_consent).
  • Analytics cookies — we may add these in future to help us understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it. We will only set these if you click "Accept all" on the cookie banner. If you click "Essential only" we will not set them.

You can change your mind at any time — delete the ot48_cookie_consent cookie in your browser (or use your browser's cookie-clear tool for this site), and the banner will reappear on your next visit.

We do not currently use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies. If that changes we will update this page and re-ask for your consent.
